Case study of designing and evaluating an independent open learner model tool

Open Learner Model (OLM) visualisations capture and display a learner’s learning state such as knowledge levels, progress, misconceptions. Exposing learners to their own models offers perspective about state. Numerous benefits have been reported include providing more opportunities for collaborate, enhancing outcomes, prompting be self-regulated. We describe new independent OLM tool, Doubtfire++ that we designed support Task-Oriented Portfolio teaching raise student awareness of progress achievements, encourage self-regulated learning. The results our evaluation show helped the staff in creating supportive environment students felt supported rewarded manner. identified several visualizations were perceived assist also gained insightful inputs feedback lead expanding its application broader context.
